Anja Matthes est une photographe réalisatrice allemande qui vit à New York. Elle est diplômée de l’université de New York en cinéma et réalisation de documentaire. Ses travaux ont été publiés entre autres dans Rolling Stone, Bombay Times, Platform Magazine et Times of India. Son travail a été exposé à la Galerie Rayko, Schomburg Center et le Museum of Arts and Design (NY)… Au cours des sept dernières années, le travail d’Anja s’est concentré sur les jeunes LGBTQ de couleur. De 2012 à 2014, elle a crée Out-In-Sight-In-Out en collaboration avec June, une adolescente transgenre sans abri. Peu après, Anja commence à travailler avec des membres de la scène Kiki, une communauté de jeunes LGBTQ à risque. En 2016, elle est finaliste de la bourse Visura Personal Projects et reçoit une bourse International Women in Journalism. Anja Matthes a donné des conférences à SF CameraWorks, Open Source Gallery et à l’Université de New York. En collaboration avec Housing Works et Open Source Gallery, Anja Matthes a produit et distribué le Kiki Yearbook, un projet de livre pour les membres de la scène Kiki et pour lequel elle reçoit HMI Honors Award. Son travail, présenté dans the Atlantic, est présélectionné pour le Athens Photo Festival 2019 et remporte le Pride Photo Award en 2019.
